Another pregnancy question

Question Posted Thursday December 30 2010, 6:15 pm

You had answered a question that I asked and you very helpful! I had said how I stopped taking birth control last month and might be pregnant. I stopped taking the pill at the end of November, which was at the end of my period. I didn't start the new pack. I had sex a couple days afterward, and then I also had sex last weekend. I have been off the pill a full month now. I was supposed to start my period Sunday, and now it's Thursday and I still haven't. Could that be because I quit taking the pill? I mean, I should still be on track. Could I be pregnant?

You very well could have gotten pregnant. I don't mean to frighten you, but there are some good chances you may soon be a mother to be. On the other hand, there are some factors to take into account as to other reasons your period may not be on time.

Stress can delay your period though, and being a few days late after discontinuing birth control pills is nothing to worry about just yet.

Give your body another week to two weeks before panicking over the possibility of pregnancy. Stress coupled with the fact that there are hormonal changes (from you discontinuing the pill for the month) can cause the period to be late.

Just relax for now. If you don't get your period after a full week of waiting then take a home pregnancy test. If it says negative and your period still doesn't arrive then take another one when the period is about 2 weeks late. If you go any longer than that you should see your doctor and explain what has happened so that he can check into what may have went wrong with your cycle and administer a blood pregnancy test for more accurate results.
