Typically, your ISP can help, but here are some general thoughts (in no particular order - just as I think of them.) These are individual troubleshooting steps. If you do any of these and it works, there is probably no need to do any more.

NOTE: this is pretty much EVERYTHING that I can think of, so some of it may not be applicable to your specific situation:

---------------

- DSL is affected by weather to some degree. If there is heavy rain, that can often cause problems. Also, because DSL is basically a fast phone connection, so it will be affected by line noise. Your ISP can remotely test for excessive line noise.

- Do you have filters on each ALL the phone jacks? Make sure that one hasn't been removed, perhaps broken by a vacuum cleaner, etc.

- Are your network cables OK? They can go bad but not LOOK bad. They can break if run under a desk, or if squashed by a chair leg or wheel, The small
retaining clip can break off and allow the connector to back out the port. Swap cables if you have a spare(s) and see if that helps.

- Power off and back on again all your hardware. Turn off the computer, unplug the DSL modem and leave them off for 5 minutes or so. After the time has passed, plug the modem back in and let it fully come up. Next, turn the computer on.

- Many computers use an onboard (built in) network interface, called a NIC. Others, use an expansion card to provide network connectivity. If your computer

has more than one onboard NIC, try swapping the cable to the other. If your computer has an expansion card NIC, try shutting down the computer, unplugging the power cable to it, and open the cover. Remove the NIC and reinsert, making sure that it's firmly seated.

- Have you installed a new browser, or firewall software or AntiVirus client that might be blocking Internet access? Many clients have a "quick" feature

that can turn off Internet access if the user suspects a security risk. Make sure that didn't happen; perhaps even uninstall any new software as a test to see if it is causing the issue.

- Look in Device Manager to make sure that you NIC hasn't been disabled, or that it doesn't have a yellow exclamation or red X indicating a problem. (Look at re-installing your drivers for the NIC if you see either one of those.

- Make sure that the network connection itself hasn't been disabled in My Network Places. re-enable it if it has.

- If this has ever worked for you, (I assume that it has), consider a doing a restore point to a time just before the problem started.

I guess that's about all that I can think of. I hope that something here does the trick for you, I know that this can be pretty frustrating.
Best Regards...
