Too much pain from braces...!

Question Posted Friday December 3 2010, 8:01 pm

Just recently, I had rubberbands and a heavy duty wire put onto my braces and I've had the rubberbands before and it only hurt for a day or two, but this time, the pain is so bad that I can't even eat. The rubberbands have to be changed five to seven times a day and have to stay in until my next appointment, a month or so AFTER Christmas. The pain has been with me for almost four days! I've taken almost every pain medication I can get. Ibuprofen, Aleve, Ecedern or however you spell that, but none of them work. The only pain medication that has actually worked for me in the past year was that perscription medication that Dr. House from House takes. I don't know how to spell it, but it starts with a V? I've taken it once after my teeth were filed down because the pain had me in tears and I felt perfect after that. I was mellow and my teeth weren't aching at all and I could actually eat. But now my mom is saying that I can't take it nor do we have any. What do I do?! My teeth are just hurting worse and worse and the orthodontist's office is closed for a winter vacation thing! Help, please!

P.S Don't know if helps any, but most over the counter medications like Aleve don't work because according to my mom, I've taken too much in the past. I had a weird addiction to them a couple years ago... I don't know if that's true or false?

I had braces for about three years. I had to wear rubberbands and I hate them because they hurt so bad. I used to cry it hurt that bad. So I decited to not wear them and I told my dentist he doesn't pay for my braces so he can't tell me what to do. I ended up getting my braces off but I never got my over bite fixed. Two years have passed since I've had braces. Now I can only open my mouth a certin length then my jaw has to pop to open further. It hurts worse then it did wearing rubber bands. So I recommend for you to wear your rubber bands no matter how bad they hurt or you'll end up like me and let me tell you it sucks and is very painful. And my doctor told me there is no way to fix it unless I get braces again and I'm not paying for braces again.

Braces are going to hurt. Mine are hurting right now as im typing. It does hurt and sometimes the pain is soo bad i just dont eat. I also have found that sucking on ice and eating stuff like ice cream and applesauce helps soothe the pain. It should go away within a week or week and a half but for now just try eating things you dont have to chew and if you have to chew chew as far back as possible.
