Anyone that needs advice can send a direct email to the advicer?
Question Posted Saturday November 27 2010, 8:37 pm
I was just suggesting an idea, how about the people who send questions in, send them to advicers to their emails directly? That way their problems could be fore private and confidential and they'd feel better about sharing their problems, especially if they don't want to post it somewhere others will be able to view it? So having their problems sent to an email address would be more appropriate and benefit both, the person who needs the help and the advicer?
There is a really good reason that we do not allow this. The questions people ask here are private. Nobody has the ability to find out who asked them except for the upper level moderators.
If we sent the questions directly to your e-mail, and exposed the e-mail of the asker so that you could reply, then YOU would know the identity of the user who asked the question.
You could then post their e-mail address and publicly humiliate them.
This is why this site offers anonymous question asking the first place, so things like that do not happen.
I am sure you didn't consider this before you asked. I can tell from your answers you don't want to hurt anyone.
I hope you see that disclosing e-mail addresses makes things LESS private, not more.
If you post your e-mail address and they want to e-mail you, then they will. Make sure you have it posted on your column if that is what you want to do. Don't post it in your answers.
