diffuser makes my hair poofy!

everytime i blow dry my hair with a diffuser, it ends up being poofy and only a few waves. i have naturally straight hair and before i diffuse it i put some sprunch spray in it (used to make hair like beach waves) and i also put gel in it and scrunch it up. then i blow dry with diffuser. it always ends up being poofy.. what am i doing wrong??

heyyyy, yea that happands to me alot, what i do is put the product in my hair while its very wet(not SOAKING WET) and diffuse myhair for only about 5 min(it gets alittle poofy) but then after i diffuse i twist it or braid it (wait 10-20 min) take the braid or twist out and it should be more tamed and smoothe.
