Is it normal to have extra discharge?

Question Posted Monday October 4 2010, 3:57 pm

I get this discharge stuff coming out of my vagina all the time but then this week it seems like it's extra more than usual. Is that safe? I been wearing a pad to help catch it and not wet my panties all the time but it's more than usual. It don't smell unusual I don't think but it seems like a lot more than regular coming out of my vagina

You didn't mention your age, so assuming you're young, extra secretions could be caused by quite a few reasons. These can all be dependant on how far along your menstrual cycle you are, whether or not you're sexually active, possible infection, as well as how old you are and even stress factors which could affect hormone levels.

However, if the only sign you're experiencing is an increased amount of discharge, without any foul smell or change in odour, consistency or colour, then you can be farely at ease that it's nothing to worry about.

Hormones fluctuate naturally through puberty and an increase in discharge without any secondary symptoms shouldn't be a cause for concern. It is more likely that you are looking too much into this as all women experience changes during their menstrual cycle.

During ovulation, it is perfectly normal to have an increase in secretions.

If you're worried about wetting your underwear then you can wear pantiliner throughout your ovulation period to absorb the extra liquid without having to resort to the bulk of conventional pads.

Finally, being quite a bit of a worrier myself when it comes to health, I can just say put your mind at rest for the time being, though if any new symptoms occur or if the situation is really bothering or worrying you, don't hesitate to visit a doctor to get things checked out.
