In the movie "carriers" what is Brian talking about when he tells Danny (his younger brother) that he told his parents "what they wanted to hear" before they left....what is he talking about?

He told them basically that they were going to get help, would be back soon, and that they were going to be alright, when in reality, they were ditching thier parents, leaving them to die of the disease.
