Did i get a concussion from the impact of water hitting my head?

Question Posted Sunday July 11 2010, 9:19 pm

Today i was swimming and i was nauseous. my brother wasplaying shark attack in the pool and he'd chase me in and out of the pool trying to bite me on my leg. I got up ran out and dove back in the pool, biut i don't think that i did it right. I didn't have my hands form a triangle above my head, my hands were on my sides and i dove in head first ( 12 feet deep pool). This happened around 6:50- 7:00. My head smacked the water and it hurt very badly. when i came up form the water everything was foggy but i don't know if that's because i opened my eyes underwater. The first thing that popped in my head was "WHAT IF I GOT A CONCUSSION?" so i freaked out. i have a history of anxiety issues causing me to feel what i think i have. Anyways, i asked my mom if i had a concussion and she was like NOOOOOOO. she wouldn't even give me a chance to talk to her. Anyways, I'm scared that i got one. But if i did have one, how could i remember every detail so clearly? Should i sleep tonight or is that for very serious concussions when you don't sleep, because i have to be up by 5:30 or 6 tomorrow for camp. But, what should i do? my head still kinda hurts but i don't know if it's form anxiety or what not. I feel a bit light headed and dizzy but that could be from anxiety too. I have mind over matter problems but i'd rather be safe than sorry.. help please? thanks !

Hey I have had two concussions...so I think I can help. One very serious or quite strong and the other only a slight concussion. With both I threw up about an hr after and kept on throwing up. And I had a bad stomach ache and head ache. Almost unbareable. So the answer is no. You didn't have a concussion. You might have joggled your brain abit in your skull just enough to get a bad headache and maybe throw up. I remember the almost exact things that happened with those situations. It's ok. Just sleep. Sleep will help and also some ibprofen or tylonal. They will get rid of the headache. What probably happened is because you hit the water head first the pressure and shock from it made your head hurt super bad. I have done this way to many times haha. :) I hope I helped if you need anything else just ask me and if I helped let me know with feedbackk!!!! :)
