What does the Mormon Bible say about-

Question Posted Sunday June 27 2010, 12:50 am

(This might be a little long)
What does the Mormon Bible say about Witchcraft?
I am asking because my friend is Mormon (I myself am Christian) And i have just found out she has been dabbling in Witchcraft. Now the first thing i said to her was that is that it is a sin for her to be doing that, but, then she asured me that she isn't doing "Black magic" but she does healing's and protection spells. I then told her that it is still a sin, but she wouldn't hear of it and got very upset with me. But she has told me that there is no Satan and that there is no hell, and i didn't know if this is the view of ALL Mormons or if it is just her point of view? And i also did not know if the Mormon Bible even speaks of Witchcraft or not? But if someone that DOES know these things could help me by giving me some passages from the Mormon Bible talking about said subject, i would be very thankful to them. And i mean no offence to any other people that do practice Witchcraft, it's just that i find it very hypocritical of her telling me that some of the tings i do is sinful but she is throwing stones and herself has a glass house. Thank you again in advance (:

First off, let me clarify a few things. Mormon's are Christians. Our faith is centered on the teachings of the Savior, Jesus Christ. We believe in the Bible--as far as it is translated correctly. (We believe some truth and clarity was lost when man translated it.) We also believe the Book of Mormon is another powerful witness of Jesus Christ, a witness that stands next to the Bible as divine scripture from the ancient world. (The Bible accounts are in Midddle east, and the Book of Mormon accounts are in Ancient America.)

Your friend doesn't sound like a practicing Mormon. If she is dabbling in witchcraft, she is far away from Mormon doctrine. Mormon's believe in Heaven and Hell, and that witchcraft is in Satan's power. We are told to stay away from it. Here are a few scriptures from the Bible and Book of Mormon:
Alma 5:40 " For I say unto you that whatsoever is good cometh from God, and whatsoever is evil cometh from the devil."

Ether 4:12 "And whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do good is of me; for good cometh of none save it be of me. I am the same that leadeth men to all good; he that will not believe my words will not believe me—that I am; and he that will not believe me will not believe the Father who sent me. For behold, I am the Father, I am the light, and the life, and the truth of the world."

Moro. 7: 16-17 "For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God."
1 John. 1:1 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

Helaman 6:30 "And behold, it is he who is the author of all sin. And behold, he doth carry on his works of darkness and secret murder, and doth hand down their plots, and their oaths, and their covenants, and their plans of awful wickedness, from generation to generation according as he can get hold upon the hearts of the children of men."

Moroni 7:12 "Wherefore, all things which are good cometh of God; and that which is evil cometh of the devil; for the devil is an enemy unto God, and fighteth against him continually, and inviteth and enticeth to sin, and to do that which is evil continually.

Mormon 1:19 "And it came to pass that there were sorceries, and witchcrafts, and magics; and the power of the evil one was wrought upon all the face of the land, even unto the fulfilling of all the words of Abinadi, and also Samuel the Lamanite."

D&C 46:7 "But ye are commanded in all things to ask of God, who giveth liberally; and that which the Spirit testifies unto you even so I would that ye should do in all holiness of heart, walking uprightly before me, considering the end of your salvation, doing all things with prayer and thanksgiving, that ye may not be seduced by evil spirits, or doctrines of devils, or the commandments of men; for some are of men, and others of devils."

I recommend you go to lds.org.

(under the "study help" section you can search under topics like witchcraft, sorcery, etc.)

Hope this helps. Your friends ideas are not Mormon beliefs.
