I really want highlights before I go on a trip to meet relatives I haven't seen in some cases 5 to 10 years. However we just had a child and I don't have the money to get them professionally done. Can I successfully give myself highlights? Is there a way to give yourself natural highlights without dying all of your hair?
I have medium brown hair that has some natural gold and auburn highlights. I just want to bring out my natural highlights and maybe enhance them a little. Something that looks nice and classy not drastic.

CrazyStylist answered Monday May 17 2010, 11:07 pm: Some hairstylists try to give themselves hightlights, and even though we know what we are doing, we should not do it !! :)
But, with that being said, in your current situation, and we've all been there, you will need to do an all over. Go to whatever drug or department store you go to, buy an all-n-1(COLOR +HIGHLIGHT) box, get it as close to your natural color as possible, and get a friend to help you use the comb that will be in the package to help you when it comes to the highlight stage. Tell whoever is helping to make sure she uses the comb in the same place on both sides of the top of your head, otherwise it will look messy and unprofessisonal, even if you don't wear it straight it just wont mesh. She/he can have more freedom with the highlights as you go away from the scalp. If you do it yourself....one word, mirrors, mirrors, mirrors !!!!!!!!!
