My friend has prader willi syndrome. I found out through a friend, and I want to know more about it before I say anything to them. I looked it up but it is so technical! Can someone give me a simple explanation of prader willi syndrome?
So basically it's a gentic disorder (meaning a mutation in your genes) and it causes the problems like low muscle tone, incomplete sexual development, behavior problems, and a constant feelign of hunger. It's not very common and it can be passed from the parent (even though the parent might not have it). Typically those you suffer from it become obese because of the constant feeling of hunger (that is due to hypothalamus part of their brain which controls your feelign of hunger). Sadly there is no cure for it yet and the best thing is to teach the parents and child how to deal with it.
I really hope that helps. I tried my best to explain it in simple terms. And best of luck to your friend! May he gain the strength to deal with PWS. :) [ TheAnnie's advice column | Ask TheAnnie A Question ]
