doodling

Question Posted Wednesday April 21 2010, 1:36 am

ok im 19/f, i get bored in class a lot so i like to doodle still haha. but i can never think of things to draw. i used to draw really well and im semi-good at it now. i dont like drawing people and hearts and stuff like that but more like tribal designs and nautical stars. if i draw hearts and flowers and what not i tend to get artsy and try to shade and make them look good, or sometimes i'll do my name in different designs. but i'm getting bored. any ideas of good doodle designs?

I think it's kind of weird that you're asking for help on doodles. They're not supposed to be glorious masterpieces that you've planned on drawing for months in order to decorate your notes. Doodles aren't really supposed to be planned in advance because, well, when you're in class, you just draw whatever the hell comes to mind.

But then again, using doodling time to practice your drawing and whatnot can really improve your art.

Anyway, my notes are usually more doodles than information, so I think I can lend a hand.

In the past week, my doodles have consisted of an entire page's worth of dress designs, dozens of strangely-proportioned humans, birds & feathers, dinosaurs, monsters, flowers, killer flowers, etc. Sometimes, if I'm really bored, I illustrate a lesson topic (the picture always ends up completely irrelevant to the actual topic and stupid, but it's fun. At one point, I think I drew a derivative - it turned out looking like a weird narwhal thing. o_o )

I knew a girl who spent each school day decorating one sheet of looseleaf paper with all sorts of intertwining swirls. She'd have a new full page every day. It was pretty intense.
