Question Posted Thursday February 18 2010, 11:35 pm
I just got my Monroe done today, and I have a few questions.
I smoke, what do I do?
And also, it's been hurting a lot when I eat, what do I do about that?
How long does it take to heal?
And how long does it take for the swelling to go down?
Also, how long does it take for it to stop hurting when I eat?
Please don't tell me to ask my piercer.
Thank you. [:
Additional info, added Sunday February 21 2010, 3:41 pm: My piercer never told me anything cause I have my nose pierced, I'm guessing he assumed that I knew what to do. I wasn't aware there was so much to it till I went online and started googling what to do. . Want to answer more questions in the Health & Fitness category? Maybe give some free advice about: Health? NEVER go there again. A reputable establishment DOES NOT assume you know how to take care of a piercing, because each one has different after care! They should ALWAYS explain your aftercare, as well as send you home with information on how to take care of it.

I had mine done on February 4th. It is just now getting to were it doesn't hurt so much to eat. You pretty much just have to suffer with it. That is the price we pay for poking holes in our faces like that.
The swelling will be at it's worst on days 2-5.
You got to wait at least 2 weeks from the day you had it done to have them put the short bar in. The one you have in now is longer to allow for swelling. My swelling actually got pretty outrageous, and I had to go in to have an even longer bar put on.
One thing I can tell you is being a smoker, it's likely going to take longer to heal and also to take longer to stop hurting. In fact, most respectable places will tell you that you should either quit smoking or not get a Monroe.
I quit smoking before getting mine done. You want to continue smoking? Fine. You just have to suck it up and deal until you're healed up in 6-8 weeks.
You need to change your outlook about asking your piercer questions. You allow someone to take a needle and injure your body and don't want to ask them questions about what they're doing to you??
Especially considering that they should have already answered these questions when you had it done, as well as sending you home with strict instructions and an aftercare sheet...
I can tell you from my experience (and I've had several experiences), but you need to trust your piercer enough to call or email them with your questions. They ARE the experts...
