Yes, looks matter. Anyone that says otherwise is a liar or is not in touch with reality. However, if you're only 14 you really do have quite a bit of time to develop (I'm not talking physically you pervs). what one person is looking for in a person isnt going to be the same as every other person's in the world.
dont put yourself down by think that you are not very pretty. and dont compare yourself to other people or other relationships, youll just set yourself up for hurt, and you dont deserve that.
I used to think that i was never good enough and not pretty enough.. [and i still do sometimes] but you have to let go of your insecurities and be confident in yourself and the choices you make.
