My computer won't shut down

Question Posted Saturday January 2 2010, 9:25 am

I own a dell laptop and when I go to the start menue and click shut down, log off, lock, restart, sleep, or hibernate nothing happens. Then to turn it off I have to click the power button everytime. But once I turn the laptop back on, it has the same time and date as the last time i was on it. Will someone please let me know how I can fix this? Thanks

Okay, well I think there is something wrong with your laptop, so you might want to take it back to where you bought it, or bring it over to a store to have them check it out. But try this first:

1. Take out the battery, and let it sit for a good 10 minutes. then put it back in and see if that works. if that doesnt:

2. Go to start, and type in the search box "restore" there should then be a link to a system restore coming up. Click on it, and there will be some dates that you can restore to. Restore to a date before your computer was having the problem.

Good Luck!!!
ps, I did a little research, and a website suggested to disable "MicrosoftAuto Updates"

Take it back to the place you bought it. It would certainly help =]

Try this: taking the battery out from the bottom of the laop, wait 10 mintes, blow both the battery and the space where the battery can out of. Next put the battery back in, turn the computer on, and then try to shut down...hopefully it will lt you. If it still doesn't work, they didn't put the shut down mode onyour harddrive so you will have to take it in where you bought it. They either will have to add it to the harddrive or give you a different computer.
