i want to record a song or a few for my boyfriend for christmas and i have audacity to do it on. but i have not a clue how to? any help at all would be great, i can play and sing it but i dont know how to get it onto the computer, much less audacity...? help!
SarcasticGreetings answered Monday December 21 2009, 9:25 pm: step 1 is to check if it works. open audacity and press the record button. (make sure you have a mic plugged in) sing/make some noise for a couple of seconds.then press stop, then play. if you hear your voice, you're good to go. if not:
go into the settings and make sure the input device is a microphone (which you'll obviously need). if it's set to anything else it won't work (if it's set to the sound card of your computer, for example, it'll record what's coming through the speakers).
once you do that repeat step 1. if it still does not work i'd suggest google-ing.
if you want to record an mp3 you'll need to download something called an mp3 LAME codec (or something like that). just save it somewhere on your computer and make sure you dont' delete it.
when your song is completely finished and awesome, go to file > export as mp3
it'll tell you you need the codec thing, then ask you to locate it, at which point you'll need to select the folder you saved it in. after that, just name the file and you're good to go :) [ SarcasticGreetings's advice column | Ask SarcasticGreetings A Question ]
