What are antioxidants good for exactly? Are antioxidants good for your skin? Will this help my acne clear up? If I drink green tea (which I heard is a good source of antioxidants) around 3 times a day will it help make my face smoother and have a natural glow?
Katlyn answered Wednesday September 9 2009, 9:16 pm: Definition of what it is :
•antioxidant - a nutrient or chemical that reacts with and neutralizes free radicals or chemicals that release free radicals. Antioxidants are also called free radical scavengers. Vitamins A, C, E and some of the B vitamins, beta-carotene, selenium and some key enzymes in your body are all antioxidants
what they do it:
antioxidants can repair damage already done to cells, which can potentially cause heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
Antioxidants work by significantly slowing or preventing the oxidative or damage from oxygen process caused by substances called free radicals that can lead to cell dysfunction and the onset of problems like heart disease and diabetes. Antioxidants may also improve the immune function and perhaps lower your risk of infection and cancer.
and yes they can be good for your skin as well the reason green tea is doing that to your skin because besides having antioxidants it has a lot of other things in it to make your skin glow [ Katlyn's advice column | Ask Katlyn A Question ]
