Why do guys take pride in protecting their girls?

It makes them feel like the "alfa male" so-to-speak hahaa. they like to feel needed and kind of liek "marking" their territory. It's like if you had a million dollars in a bag and you wanted to protect that bag from anyone who could potentially try to take it away from you, you would take pride in knowing you didn't let anyone take it away from you.. it's the same way with guys, but instead of bags of money, it's their girl. haha. I really hope that made sense, it's just, it makes the guys feel really masculine and good about themselves, like they're so tough. they also do it to show off a little bit for their girls, even though they don't admit it, it's so obvious :] its really just a possesive thing, instinctive.
