How to set up a neighborhood project to fix our park?

Question Posted Sunday July 19 2009, 8:38 am

We have a park in our neighborhood. Haha, yup. Recently the slide got broken so they are going to add another, and they put up stuff so that people can't ride it as well as several notices explaining what was going on and that they were going to add a new one. it also had a phone number of someone if you wanted extra info or something. I've been thinking of calling the person to talk about my idea to fix up the park. like it would be great for college admissions if like teens in the neighborhood get involved, and it sounds like a fun memorable thing to do to bring our neighborhood more together. cause our park is pretty crappy. All that is there is a tire swing, 4-way seesaw with baby size seats, a dumb slide, a bench, a place for playing in the sand, and plain monkey bars. i think we could do so much more. Improving the park will make more people want to hang out there or bring their kids more often to the park, as well as increase property values, I think. Which is good cause my family is moving next summer, haha. Extra $$$ = good.

what are ideas? like i really want to add a merry go round, a legit swingset (not the dumb tire swing. nobody likes it and it makes people wanna puke), a cooler slide.. etc. like pretty much pump up the volume. idk whats new with park stuff for kids so please tell. like cause my younger brother and a lot of kids find that theres not much to do at the park at all. oh yeah and under the stuff is woodchips. surrounded by the park is all this land, that doesn't belong to people. the problem is that this land is hills, and the hills are next to people's properties. i want to expand the park. possibly even add a public pool but that would be by a stretch cause we'd need a lot for that and im not even sure if there's enough space for a good one. the whole place would probably have to be transformed into a pool place... im not sure whether thats a good idea or not.

I kinda want to know what im doing before I call the lady.. like I dont know what we could do for fundraising as well. I'm 15 years old by the way, and about to be a high school sophomore. I live in a suburb, haha. Thanks!

get a petition,
get people and parents around the neighborhood that want to help,
and ask them to sign it,
also get a roster, liek to see who would be willing to help put everything together.

then call the lady and tell her that people in the neighborhood would really liek some renovations in the park
and that they'd be willing to help if needed. <3
