What's the difference between a pot leaf with 5 leaves, and a pot leaf with 7?

Well I've heard that 5 leaves are male, and 7 are female, but then I've also heard it has nothing to do with the sex, just on the way it grows,

But just remember that more leaves, the more potents the plant, so I hear!
