found new hardware keeps on showing up at the beginning

Question Posted Tuesday July 7 2009, 11:51 pm

Ok recently I can not figure out how to stop found new hardware install from popping up each time I power on my computer. The pop up says that it is trying to install my uninstalled philips cd drive which does not work so this guy told me to uninstall the driver so I did and that's what has been happening. Anyway it would be nice if it would just not turn up since my mom needs to use the computer as well to look up bank statements.

Go to [start -> run] (or press WinKey+R). Type this and press enter:
devmgmt.msc
Find the device that you are being asked about. It will be marked with a yellow "!". Right click it and "disable". The new hardware wizard will no longer appear for that device.

If the device doesn't work after this, you should reenable it in device manager and try to find the proper drivers online. Sometimes drivers are automatically downloaded with Windows update.
