Unleaded plus cheaper than regular in North Dakota & South Dakota...why?

Question Posted Monday June 15 2009, 2:50 am

I'm traveling cross country right now and I've noticed that in North Dakota and South Dakota, the unleaded plus gasoline is the cheapest and unleaded regular is more expensive.
Why is this?
This seems so strange and counterintuitive to me.
In every other state I've ever been to, unleaded regular is the cheapest and unleaded plus is more expensive.
What the heck is going on in the Dakotas to make them do it backwards? It's confusing!

Interesting. Perhaps unleaded plus is in greater demand? Can't think of any other reason other than shorter supply + high demand = higher prices.
