difference between eating raw veggies and eating steamed or cooked veggies

Do the nutrient or mineral levels go down when you cook vegetables? Is eating cooked veggies pretty much equivalent to eating raw veggies?
I am bringing this up because it seems like all the nutritionists I see on TV say to eat raw vegetables but they don't explain why you can't cook or steam them. I don't even hear them say you can't but if they didn't want you to cook them then they wouldn't bother saying "Eat raw veggies" and would just say "Eat veggies".

Steaming will preserve more than cooking because there is less water soaking up the good stuff. That's why it's always most nutritious to eat them raw.
