Fantasy novels. Hey people.
I'm in my final year of high school, going to university (hopefully) next year to study english. I want to be a writer and i know i have to read a lot of different kinds of books before i can make one myself. I'm into fantasy (as in supernatural things) and classic literature but I never know what books are good or not.
I get most of the classic books from penguin classics and I've liked all of them. I want books that are challenging without it being impossible. I also love fantasy literature but a lot of fantasy books look...cliche or amateurish. Kate Forsyth's 'Witches of Eilanan' and 'Rhiannons ride' were the kind of books i loved reading when i was about 14, and now they're a little too simple for me.
I want to read some more vampire books (a part from Twilight) to give me different ideas for a horror/fantasy novel. I don't mind romance but usually incorporated within a classic or fantasy book.
What i'm asking is, What are some great fantasy books? Some really amazing ones. Sci-Fi is, O.K but i prefer just fantasy. And they don't have to be modern fantasy, some good old ones are fine too :) (like Frankenstein, Turn of the screw (gothic novels))
p.s I'm not into harry potter or lord of the rings. OHH and if you know any other novels that are just great in themselves no matter what kind of genre they are, type it down :)
Thankyou!

A good series of books are house of night novels by P.C Cast and her daughter Kristen. Its about vampires. Reasearch witchcraft and wicca and use your imagination with that. Reasearch urban legands and mytholigy. Demonic beings, vampires, witches, and spirits are all very cool. Oh and wicca has nothing to do with the supernatural it would just be really cool to creat a world of witches and to have a little knowlege of what they really are. ]
