Painful, frequent urination...is it an STD?

Question Posted Thursday June 11 2009, 1:30 am

It burns when I pee and I am peeing a lot more than usual for me. It started a few weeks ago and sometimes it doesn't burn as much but when it does it is really annoying and uncomfortable. I've been sexually active and I read somewhere online that it could be a sign of a STD. I've been with a lot of people and some were just hookups at parties and stuff. :\ (I know, I know...it was really stupid of me to have those hook ups!) So, a STD could be a reason why I have these burning sensations but I don't know for sure or anything because I haven't ever gone to a doctor (gynecologist?). I don't want to tell my mom because this is really embarrassing and I don't want her to be mad at me if it is serious.

What do I do?

You have a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). Be careful if you are having unprotected sex, one of the earliest signs of pregnancy is UTI (in some cases) and sensitive breasts! Drink lots of Citra Soda (fruit salt effervescent - available over the counter and cheap) and if it doesn't clear up in 48 hours you must seek professional help!
Also, not telling your mom if this is serious is the worst mistake, she may be mad at you for a while but she loves you. You need to keep the channels of communication open with her especially if you are sexually active and if you are uncomfortable speaking to her about it, you need to talk to an adult female that you trust like an aunt or family friend. We all do stupid things from time to time but you need to learn from this and be careful, you sound quite young and you have your whole life ahead of you, think about that seriously and know what you want from life, then eliminate possible situations that could seriously hamper your future.
If you want to talk, let me know, I'll be happy to be a sounding board and offer freindly advice.

I'm not going to lecture, because I did it once too, but BE CAREFUL. From the little information given, it might be as mild as a UTI (urinary tract infection) or early signs of an STD. Try drinking some acidic juices to alleviate some of the symptoms (cranberry juice works best) but go to the doctor. You don't necessarily have to see a OB/GYN but your local health department can probably help you. If you are over the age of 14 (USUALLY that's the youngest) they won't tell your parents if you ask them not too, but check first, it differs from state to state. THey are also very inexpensive.
Also: if you are sexually active 1st use a condom! It really isn't all that different, and it keeps you safe.
2nd, try and pee after sex. If you are female, males can have bacteria on their penis than can be pushed into the vagina during intercourse. Peeing after sex can help wash away any bacteria at the enterance of the urethra.
Good Luck
