Being on birth control for 2 years (but stopped), that is actually very common to bleed between periods. That happened to me often. Sometimes it does depend on what birth control you're on. Are you on a combination pill, or a single hormone pill? I know single hormone pills can do that to you (like estrogen/estradol).

I would say give it a few months, and if you're still experiencing bleeding I would go to the Physician that described it to you and they can put you on a different contraceptive.

A little bit of bleeding is normal, however if it's happening often, it's best to go see your doctor, and he/she can get to the root of the problem and perhaps try you on a different pill.

Best of Luck
