I have thin, medium-short hair, and it's really dry. I'm sick of it. Honestly. It makes me so depressed. All I can do is tie it and never tightly, because I have a round face and it's unflattering to have tight, wound back hairstyles. I have been seeing one of the best doctors in NY for my hair. They've done every test possible and gave me Rogaine. (didn't work) I take a Biotin vitamin everyday. I NEVER straighten, blowdry, or curl my hair. Nothing. No colorings, perms, etc. It's completely natural. I get it trimmed once every 6 weeks. I work out 4-5 times a week. I eat healthy, no fast food, soda, candy, etc. But nothing is working and I'm so fed up. I used to have long, thick hair when I was even 7 or 8, and then when I hit age 10 my hair gradually got thinner and thinner. Now it's just a shame. My hair absolutely sucks. I can't do anything with it. I feel like crying every time I look in a mirror. It won't grow past my shoulder. I am seriously at a loss here. I don't know why its so thin and dry and poofy! My doctor said I could eventually result to a hair transplant. But I don't want just a few new hairs..I want thick, LONG hair. How much new hair do I even get from a transplant? I was considering extensions, but those cost a lot, and I heard that you need to go to a stylist every month and get them redone, and that it damages your hair a LOT. So there. I'm completely screwed over. I'm rubbing Emu Oil into my scalp once or twice a week now so get my hair growing, but nothing is working. I'm so fed up with all this. I can't try so hard just to get no results whatsoever. Does anyone know of any other options for me? Has anyone used something that drastically thickened their hair? I just want medium-long thick, messy hair. Not what I have now. It's unattractive as well as uneven on my head and it looks stupid. I don't want to go for "hairstyles that make your hair look thicker,' that's just a stupid illusion. I really want thick hair. Please help :(

Myrrha answered Monday March 30 2009, 11:23 pm: It sounds like you could possibly have alopecia areata. A friend of mine growing up had this. She had bald spots on her head. There really is no way to get your hair to grow back. There are all kinds of hair treatments for hairloss, but none of them are sure thing to work. My friend keeps her hair really short, and has all kinds of wigs. Since she hasn't found a treatment that works for here, she decided that wigs were fine for her. She has fun with them, and she doesn't feel self-concious about her hair this way. I can't imagine what it feels like for you, especially at your age. I'm sure eventually they will find some sure fire treatments for thinning hair. [ Myrrha's advice column | Ask Myrrha A Question ]
