I have an eating addiction!

Question Posted Thursday February 26 2009, 6:54 pm

19/f

I am 5'8"...about 147 pounds right now.... I look relatively thin. I've always eaten alot. My metabolism is in my favor; at one time I've lost a little weight when i wasnt trying to. Sometimes it would be alot at once, or sometimes i just eat often. I have always enjoyed eating vvvvvery much. Sometimes it comforts me, or it just makes me happy. But more recently, I don't always seem to enjoy eating.

Now it seems more like an addiction. Like, with the withdrawl and the cravings that i cant seem to discipline myself to resist. I eat when i'm not hungry. I eat when I'm full. I eat things I'm not even sure if i want. I just cant stop eating!

My mom got mad at me because she told me not to eat her chocolate candies, and I knew she would be mad if i ate them, but i was willing to take a yelling at because I nnnnnneeded it.

Now i feel like sometimes i hate eating. And eating is annoying sometimes.... I just really hate feeling like I cant control this. It is controlling me. And I am starting to gain a lllittle weight now, and I would like to be able to control this so that I wont go insane over it, and so i wont end up gaining too much weight.

I need help.. what can I do to resist eating un-necessarily? Something satisfying or occupying... because drinking alot of water wont work...

i would recommend explaining this to your mom, because a lot of people with eating disorders need professional help. You feel like it's controlling you, so it maybe time to take the extra step. For now you can train yourself to get past your cravings. Most cravings only last 15 mins. If you have a craving for something sweet, grab fruit instead. Get some sugar-free gum, and every time you have a craving, chew some gum. Also, leave the house and go for a short walk when you start craving, it will distract your mind. I wish you luck.

I used to have a similar problem when i was younger on a smaller scale, but my metabolism sucked.
When i looked back on it i would always eat when something bad happened. I would eat massive amounts of junk food.

So, first of all you need to figure out what is your trigger for why you are eating. It could be stress in your life, anger, sadness, or it could be something else.
Next time you go on an eating binge think of how your feeling right before you started eating. Happy sad mad ect..

Second try to eliminate w.e. the trigger is in your life. If your sad when you eat, take out w.e's in your life thats making you sad.

Third, try to remove as much junk food from the house as possible. If you remove temptation then you can't eat.

Well thats my two sense. Hope it Helps.

Just following up.
Since you said you feel bored, or anxious when you eat sometimes try to be doing something at all times to take your mind off food.
Hang out with friends.
Pick up a new hobby.
Workout
Do anything that will occupy your time.

Also since you want closer friends then i suggest that you try to build on friendships you have that are close, and also go out and meet new friends.

Good luck!
