Teaching myself guitar

Question Posted Saturday February 21 2009, 8:11 pm

I'm trying to teach myself guitar with the help of the internet. Its not going well.

Keep in mind, I'm an absolute beginner, I don't know the difference between notes & chords. I've tried several websites, but some places jump right into chords and other places start with some octave thing or whatever.

Does anyone have a great website they used or maybe some tips? This isn't going well because I can't find a site that will start me from the very, very beginning.

Thank you :)

The first step would be to learn the basic chords. This website will help.... [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Memorize two chords at a time and practice moving between the two until you can do it at a fairly good speed. Then add another and another.

Once you know these basic chords, you can play a multitude of songs. You can find songs on [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) Pick songs that are easy for you and use the chords that you know. Obviously, you won't be attempting Classical Gas right away, but there are many songs that use the basic chords. Print out the songs so you can practice.

As far as notes, well, you'll have to learn to read music to read notes, but if you know chords, Chordie is a great place to find just about any song you want, without having to read music!

After you've practiced the song you've chosen (hopefully it's in the same key) you can go on you tube and see if it's posted. If so, you can play along with the band!
