perfect prom look?

Question Posted Sunday February 15 2009, 4:17 pm

ok i'm 17 and going to my school's prom for the first time this year. i want to have a beautiful dress, but i don't know where to start. i'm a big-time tomboy and only wear casual dresses to church occasionally. i'm 5'7, very athletic, average size, have a good figure, shoulder length blonde/brown hair, brown eyes, and i'm tan. does anybody have any suggestions for a style of dress that is not very revealing? or even a color for the dress? a cute hairstyle would work too. i just have no idea where to start to make myself look and feel beautiful that night. i want my boyfriend to be completely blown away because he's never seen me that dressed up before. most girls have a lot of experience with this, but i don't and any advice would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much! <3

Hi!
I'm really not 100% sure of what your style is - but so far from what you've said, I'll try to do my best.

I think that a beige color would look great on you, I would say something like dark blue, but because you are tan, it wouldn't really go well. You could try neutral colors (I say this because it seems like you wouldn't want to wear something flashy like pink, orange, yellow, etc) like beige, light blue, red/maroonish, purple (color of the season!), etc. I think purple would go best because -
1. its the color of 2009.
2. it would go with your skin tone.
3. its not too girly - or too tomboy-ish.
For the design of the dress, I would say a tube top thats higher up than usual, if you don't want to show any cleavage, then I would do a higher up tube dress, but don't do spahgetti strap because (I would imagine, because you're sporty) it would usually make your shoulders look bigger, something like a tube dress makes your shoulders look slightly sleeker.

For the hair style; these look cute - if you don't have bangs,

But for the hair, I would make it look clean-cut, nothing that involves your hair being teased, etc.

For your makeup, I would do something with a white eyeshadow that will stick out (because of your tan), with a light pink lipgloss (I suggest not lipstick).

Btw- I recently got a magazine that have different styles of prom dresses, I think the mags called "PROM" or something. They should have it in a Stop and Shop or Walgreens, one of those places.

I hope I helped and please message me how it goes & what dress did you choose!
