How long does it take to heal?

Question Posted Sunday February 1 2009, 12:22 pm

So this is kind of a long story, but I'll try to sum it up.

Yesterday morning (Saturday), I woke up to my dog whining and barking constantly outside. I was really sick with a fever/cold and I was really tired, and she was bothering me, so I began pounding on my window to shut her up. I guess I pounded really hard, though, because my hand smashed right through the glass. My hand started bleeding like crazy, but nothing hurt.
So what happened was I got 4 little cuts which don't bother me much, but then I have this really big one on the side of my wrist. It's about an inch long and maybe a centimeter & 1/2 deep and wide. I didn't have to go to the emergency room, but I had to put butterfly bandages over it with a big bandage over that. My dad said that I'll probably have a scar for a long time because of it.
So its Sunday now, and I was just wondering, how long do you think it will take to heal up? Will I have to wear a bandage over it on Monday when I go back to school? Thanks!

Has anyone properly disinfected your hand? If not, you really need to get it disinfected immediately because infection can set in very easily. Signs to watch for are:1- redness occuring around the cut; 2-swelling occuring around the cut; 3-blisters forming around the cut; 4-increase pain around the cut; 5- feeling heat around the cut.
You should disinfect with Peroxide, dry well and use an antibiotic cream such as Polysporin or another reputable antibiotic cream. Then cover it with a band aid. Once your cut is starting to heal, I suggest you apply Aloe Vera gel to help to healing process. By applying the Aloe Vera gel you are minimizing your chances at having a serious scar.Keep your cut clean, disinfected and covered for a few days until you are starting to heal. Make sure to keep an eye on it and if there is a red circle around it or a red line running away from it you have an infection and see your doctor.

it will probably take 2-3 weeks for it to heal completley and you will probably have to wear a bandage over it because if its exposed to a lot of air it will hurt and probably get infected.
