Marching Bands I am a junior in high school in Virginia and my GPA currently is a 4.3. I have decided that I would like to attend a small but prestigious university with strong chemical-engineering and music programs. My favorite high school activity is marching band. However, most of the private universities have scatter bands instead of real marching bands. If I love marching band, should I deter select colleges like U of C and Harvard from my application list just because they do not have true marching bands? If you have any suggestions of universities and colleges that you think my description fits, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think if you love marching band, then you should not choose a school that doesn't have one (simple as that). There are many prestigious schools that aren't as small as U of C or Harvard that have marching bands. Check online at collegeboard.com and search for the more selective medium sized schools... for example, Vanderbilt, or Stanford. I don't know for a fact if they have marching bands but I would imagine they do, and I know they are great academically! ]
