Pressing Charges

Question Posted Friday November 21 2008, 9:30 pm

17/f

Hi, I'm a senior in high school from BC, Canada. I am looking to press charges for being assaulted by a peer at a school event. Does anyone know how this works? I will be in touch with the police shortly. What makes a successful case? Thanks for the insight.

Uuuuhh... You'd have to be a little more specific about what happened, but I would suggest going in there as a mature and responsible young adult. Clean up, dress up a little, don't slouch, address people as sir or ma'am, don't interrupt and don't let your emotions get hold of you. I'm sure you've heard all these sorts of things before. Tell what happened in your experience in a calm manner, and refrain from getting angry or throwing any names out towards the other person. If you can get the respect of the officials, things are more likely to go well for you. Good luck!
