Whats with the stock market?

Question Posted Monday September 15 2008, 5:05 pm

Im 19. I just graduated in June. Im trying to go to school to become an elementry school teacher, i really dont have tons of money, i live with my dad and he is not rich either. he is really up on the stocks and politics but the only stock he has are from his work (they made it part of his retirment). He keeps telling me THE STOCK MARKET IS REALLY CRASHING!! THIS BANK AND THIS BANK ARE GOING BANKRUPT ect. But he just gets mad and wont explain it he just yells so i have NO idea whats going on! so my question is whats going to happen like does this really have anything to do with me? i live in a small town, are there not going to be ANY jobs? is it going to turn into the depression of the 20s? i mean what does it mean to average teens and young adults?? thanks for anything you can tell me.

Don't worry I don't think we are going to go into a depression like in the 20's. We have learned from history and we know how to come out of a depression now. Only if our government will do something about it. We are just in a recession. The government has tried to do things such as the tax stimulus. To come out of this recession our government needs to spend money. WWII is what brought us out of the depression in the 20's, because the government had to spend money to go to war. Therefore, this gave people more jobs. Then people had more money to spend, which helped the economy.
Education is a good field to be going into. Teaching is one of very few jobs that are recession free. Which means even if the economy goes to crap, which is unlikely, you will still have a job. So just keep going to school and get your education. That is the most important thing you can do right now.
