It does depend on the type of bleach you use, how strong it is, but theoretically this should be the case.
I've been bleaching and dying my hair for years and have found that if i start with a darker colour, it will be darker after bleaching than if i used a light colour.

If you want multi tonal hair, use a light blonde hair dye which should leave the light bits light and the darker bits darker than the light bits.

If you want all over bleach blonde, use something like B Blonde by jerome russel for Dark Hair. If you want it all light yet multi tonal you could bleach then use a highlighting product?

Hope I helped!
