belly button piercing infectoin

Question Posted Wednesday August 27 2008, 7:20 pm

My belly button piercing is seriously infected. I've had it for four days and every day it gets worse. What should I do? I cant take it out, because then the infection gets sealed in. AND every day I sea salt soak it twice -- once in the morning and once before bed, and clean it with rubbing alcohol (I have to do this because I have field hockey season and I don't want the sweat to make it even worse/dirtier...so I just use the r.a. after practice and then I shower.)
So I thiknk Im cleaning it pretty well -- But what else should I do?
I am extremely concerened this could become serious.
By the way, talking to my piercer is not an option... so don't say to go back and talk to them.

Quite honestly, when I got mine done, it was like that for a bit.
Only difference I cleaned it more than twice a day.
Pretty much whenever it looked like it needed to cleaned I would clean it. hell even up to 8 or so times. (haha I'm really paranoid, because my sisters' got so bad that they had to remove theirs and they both have scars from the piercing.)
If you go to any body piercing shop, you can ask for special creams to clean/heal your piercing.
Hope I helped & good luck :)

Do Not Use rubbing alcohol!!! It is eating the infected skin and it won't go back to regular skin. The skin thats pierced will get smaller and thats not a good thing, then it has a higher chance of getting riped out.
Use peroxide. Get some neosporin and put it on the ring, and twist the ring inside of you.
I'm a freak with piercings, I have 20, so I think I know what I'm talking about.
The sea salt will help for only so long, soon the infection will get immune to it, and it will stop working. If there is a puss bubble, do not pop it like a pimple. Get a needle, make sure you burn the tip of it to make sure the germs are off of it, then poke the bubble.
With sports, do not cover it with a band aid or anything. After practice take your shirt off and just lay in bed to let your belly ring breathe a little.
Every time you touch it, wash your hands, don't touch it more then needed. I say about 4-5 times should be good, thats when you should be putting the neosporin on it. I hope I helped, any more questions feel free to message me!!

Uhm I never used it on either one of mine. The top for infected bc I went swimming in a lake and didn't clean it after. But just by using neosporin and not touching it a lot it cleared up in oh idk a week maybe. but then I did use rubbing alcohol and I don't have much skin left. my bottom got infected from changing it to early, and I went to GNC(not sure if you have one) and got this one stuff I can't think of the name, and it helped too, but it didn't on my friend. But if you don't have a GNC just use neosporin 4-5 times a day, getting it on the ball and what not. If the Vas. is seems to be working, keep trying it, I just never did it!! Good Luck any more questions just message me! :D

If the infection continues you will need
to see a doctor. This is not a good place
for an infection. You may need an antibiotic
to clear it up.

I suggest a triple antibiotic found at Walmart
or any similar stores. Generic label works fine.

Here is a site for more info.
