block sound

what is good to block out sound other than earplugs? those never work and they fall out of my ears!!! anything really soundproof?

If you want to block out sound to protect your hearing, then you must use earplugs or acoustic earmuffs. There's no other safe way. Acoustic earmuffs are more expensive, but they work better and they're more comfortable.

If you want to block out sound so that you don't notice other sounds, the best cheap way is to wear headphones playing white noise. You can get a recording of white noise here:

You'll eventually tune out the white noise, but it'll help block other sounds.

Or you can get noise-canceling headphones. I've tried them, they work great.
