i have an ipod touch, and it had been working fine for a while. now, when i plug it in to my computer itunes doesnt connect to the ipod itself? do i need to reinstall itunes?

Go to Apple's website. You don't say if your Mac or PC or what operating system you're using, so I can't answer directly. But you'll find all the troubleshooting steps on the website.
