blue haired freak

Question Posted Thursday August 14 2008, 4:07 am

so i tried to dye my hair a couple years ago and i realized i used special effects blue haired freak. it didn't work i didn't bleach it, i left it on for like 20 min. i only tried it once a long time ago but i have a lot left. do you think i need to buy new stuff since its so old? also what does chlorine do to dyed hair? and is it really bad if i leave it in for like an hour or something or five hours etc. i want to try to get the color without bleach because i really don't want it to damage my hair. here is me and my current hair colour.

I'm not positive if you'd need to buy a new bottle, it might help if you do. But I'm not sure, I think if you use the one you still have left it should be fine.
About the coloring though, without bleaching it you won't get it as bright as it would be on people like these: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
They all bleached their hair before putting the dye on it. With your hair it might give it a dark blue, but it won't be as bright and it might not last as long.
If you want a bright, vibrant blue you will HAVE to bleach your hair. But trust me, it's not as bad as everyone thinks. I bleached my hair only once and I bought some deep conditioners/leave-in conditioners and using it every time I washed my hair REALLY helped and it wasn't that damaged to begin with.
Just make sure not to bleach your hair like..twice in one day. THAT is what could damage your hair.
But just once wouldn't hurt it.
But if you really don't want to bleach, then that is fine. But it won't come out as bright, and I can't say what color it will turn your hair. Sorry. :( I'm sure it'd just be a darker version with your hair color.
And about leaving it on for an hour or more, with Special Effects you can. You can leave it on for an hour because it's a vegan dye so it doesn't damage your hair at all. So you could leave it on for three hours and it'd be fine.
And for me, what the chlorine did was fade my hair. A lot. At the time I used it, I had Blue Mayhem as my hair color and it turned it a very light purple. But I was swimming for around five hours so that could have helped with the color changes.

Just some random tips for your hair:
When you do plan on dying it, make sure that you don't wash your hair for two or one day(s) before. It helps hold the color better.
You don't HAVE to bleach but it would make your hair come out brighter and last longer. But like I said, you don't have to. But I can't guarantee it'd come out a nice color. It might just tint your hair, make it a very dark blue, or come out a really odd color.

And just a random thing, but if you want bright neon blue hair I'd recommend Blue Mayhem. It's much brighter. :)

Well I do hope this helped, and good luck with your hair. =D
