acceptable amount?

Question Posted Tuesday August 12 2008, 8:47 pm

my friend is turning 16 next week and is having a party at her house - its not like a formal sweet sixteen, its just like pizza and chips and cake and like swimming and stuff like that.
I decided to give her money as a gift but I don't know whether to give her $50 or $75.
If it was a formal sweet sixteen i probably would give $75 or even $100, but since its really informal is $50 fine?
I've known her since we were 7 so I guess that matters.

I think $50 would be fine. When I buy birthday presents for friends that I've known for a long time, I usually don't go over $50. A lot of my friends consider that a whole lot of money to give someone, so I really think that you will be fine if you give that much.

$50 is totally fine! I'm sure your friend would be happy with that amount. To make it more special, you could even make her a big card & write on it all of the good times & memories you guys have together! (:

Hope this helped!

If you want to give $50, sure go ahead, but even $15-$20 would be acceptable.

If you don't have a job and you really don't get much of an allowance [like me], I'd say giving what you can is fine. And if your friend is upset about how much money she's getting, she really isn't that great of a friend.
