Iphone 3g? Not using AT&T
Do you think it's worth it to buy the iphone 3g just to use as an 8gb ipod? I would get the itouch but
it'salmost $100 more than the 3g. I wouldn"t use the at&t service because i already have verizon i just
want to use the ipod. And would the gps still work without service? Thanks.

the price you are looking at for the ipod 3g is probably the contract price. even then though... i see buy it nows on ebay for the touch for $200 which is the contract price of the new iphone. without the contract itll probably run you about $400. slightly more for an unlocked one, in which case you could use it as your phone. also, you need a sim card in there, but not necessarily service in order to use it. so no, not worth it.

I don't believe the phone would even work as an iPod without the ATT service, and the GPS would not work 100% sure about that one. I would say get a Zune, cheaper, better features, easier to use, and no DRM!
Microsoft Zune is the way to go!
