always scared

i'm a 16 year old girl and i'm scared to sleep alone in my own room. i'm scared of the tiniest things i see on tv, even if other people don't even think they're scary. for example, i was scared of the boy that came out from the bathtub on scary movie 3 or 4(i dont remember which one) even though that movie is a comedy!

im mainly scared of ghosts and stuff which i know sounds ridiculous, but also of people hiding in our house after breaking in. i know its irrational, but i can't help being scared! i just keep picturing scary scenes and thoughts in my head and then i cant keep my eyes closed.

does anyone else my age have this problem?? and what can i do to stop being scared?? also, my house makes A LOT of noises, like the walls creak and random stuff like that and a lot of it i don't know what the sounds are, which also scare me and cause me to start thinking scary thoughts. what should i do?????? thanks!!

I actually have/had this problem, too! It sounds like you're thinking WAY too in depth about these things, and are getting a tad paranoid, which is completely normal.

First, it's fine to get scared watching movies where things pop out and stuff. Lots of people have the same reaction, believe it or not, even if they've seen the movie lots of times!

Ghosts is a problem I had, haha. What I did was kind of face my fear. If I thought there was something in a different room, behind me, or looking at me from a window or something, I'd just go look. It's creepy, but it takes away from the "What if.." or "Maybe.." factor, and helps to relieve you a little. Also, I started actually watching the ghost shows again that got me so paranoid! Just watch them with a friend and well.. Make fun of them! It'll add a little comedic twist to one of your fears. I'd recommend either Ghost Hunters International (They're so irrational, it's funny), or A Haunting, both on the Sci Fi channel. After a while, you'll actually enjoy the shows, and feel a little more relaxed when it comes to those things.

For being scared of people breaking into your house, do the same thing where you'd check everything to make sure it's secure. Also, if you need to, take extra precautions. Keep a phone/flashlight/bat (?) near where you sleep, so you feel a little more comforted.

If you're getting scared at night, start reading or watching movies or something. It'll keep your mind off what's going on around you, and will give you less time to think and be paranoid.

Also, check out where the sounds are coming from one day! Do it during the day time, and walk around and see if there's any creaking or anything. Turn it into a game or something, and see if you can tell where people are walking and stuff.

Hope this helps at all, and believe me if you just get your minds off of it, everything will seem much less scary!

What you should do is before you go to bed check what your scared of like check the closet to make sure theres no one hiding in there. or stuff like that and when your scared of something in a movie just remember its not true just keep repaeting over and over in your head its not true its not real....

I have to keep getting up to see if theres someone actually in my room
As stupid as this sounds i try thinking bout things that happend the other day (good things)
i listen to music to block the noises till i sleep i always leave my door open so i know y parents are close by i watch a comedy movie before i sleep not a scary comedy a comedy lol,sometimes i talk on the phone till i get sleepy,you can always buy a night light they sort of help,it's just a phase we're going through hopefully we get over it soon :]]
