i just recently got braces last week.
usually after the dentist puts your braces on, it takes an hour for you to feel your teeth moving and a little bit of pain.
you should eat food in that hour while you have a chance :)
the next week or less you should eat smoothies, ice cream, anything soft. but you should also start trying to eat harder foods. if you don't try early enough, it will feel really weird when you try to eat something hard.
i usually took advil or aleve. any pain medicine will work really.
cold drinks make it feel better for just a bit. not really that much help :)
lol
as for colors, try to get some that you wouldn't mind wearing every day. don't get coors like black, dark blue, dark anything.
sometimes it looks like you have food in your teeth :) i went with pink and lime green. i luvv them! haha it doesn't have to match you clothes, just your personality.
i've noticed that my rubber bands come off the brackets easily. i could take mine off and put it back on if i wanted to. they really don't serve a purpose other than andding color and making braces more exciting! haha i hope i helped!
if you have anything else you want to know. you know where to get me!(column page has e-mail)
i hope your braces turn out great :)
you won't regret them later =D [ lexalovessocks's advice column | Ask lexalovessocks A Question ]

They will probably start to hurt a few hours later, when your teeth start moving. To relieve the pain, just take a few painkillers (such as Advil, Motrin, etc.)
It also helps to eat soft foots or cut your food into tiny pieces so you don't have to chew. It might also hurt to brush your teeth for a few days, but just brush lightly.
Don't worry, the pain only lasts for a few days.
Good luck with your braces! [ Sweetnsourxx's advice column | Ask Sweetnsourxx A Question ]
S_C answered Thursday July 24 2008, 8:12 am: You really don't feel much pain after getting your braces on.
It feels more like a tightening or even kind of what it felt like to have a tooth grow in. It's irritating.
Just take some pain meds. You can take tylenol, ibuprofin, etc. Whatever works best for you. Better to take it right after getting them on so the medicine kicks in by the time the pain starts coming.
For the first few days you'll want to eat soft foods only.
The first day I had my braces on, I ate mashed potatoes and half of a hot dog. It's all I could stand.
Within a few days, you'll be fine. Now you just won't be able to eat sticky or too-hard foods.
Make sure you brush really, really well. It's very easy to get cavities with braces if you don't brush well enough. [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
aidenisfire answered Thursday July 24 2008, 2:25 am: Well you don't really get to pick the pattern on your braces, normally the orthodontist does different things depending on how your teeth need to be tightened. YOu can pick colors however, and most dentists will let you pick two different ones if you want. For picking that, choose your favorite color, or your school/favorite sports team's colors, or just colors you like, but make sure you won't mind if they clash with an outfit you're wearing. If you're going to an important event like a wedding or dance you may want to color coordinate. As for making the pain go away after you get them, you probably won't be able to eat solid food for the first couple days, but it varies depending on the person. Ask your parents to get some numbing stuff. There's different liquids you can buy that you can put on your gums and teeth that will help the pain, but I'm not sure what they're called. Besides that just stick with soft foods the first few days. Don't worry too much about the pain, just remember when they come off you will have great teeth! Hope I helped =) [ aidenisfire's advice column | Ask aidenisfire A Question ]
