Veggie and fruit trays are always good, but make sure you balance all the healthy food out with some junk. Have a lot of different types of chips, you could also have a cheese and cracker plate. Make sure whatever food you put out won't melt.
For beverages make sure you have lots of water since it's going to be hot, have soda and juice as well, and lemonade is always a good idea. If you don't want to do alcoholic beverages you can do virgin mixed drinks like pina coladas and strawberry daquiris, these are a great way to stay cool.
As for things to do, you didn't really give me an idea of the age group, but I will try to throw out some good ideas. Since it's hot out, anything with water is a good idea, like water balloon fights, sprinklers, a slip n' slide, or a water gun fight. Another really fun idea is a shaving cream fight. It sounds dumb, but if you put something really slippery on the ground and have everybody attacking each other with shaving cream it's a really good time, and the pics you can get are great. A scavenger hunt could be a fun way to give out prizes/party favors. Truth or Dare and Spin the Bottle are always classics. If you have space where you're holding the party you could set up a badminton/volleyball net.
For what type of top you want to wear, it sounds like your only sensible option is a t-shirt. I would stay away from black because it attracts heat, but white, and any other color would be fine. Just pick something you think you look good in, and make sure it's comfortable. You don't want to have to worry about what you're wearing while trying to host a bbq.
