i have cingular (at&t) and out of nowhere at the top of my cell it suddenly has a 3G symbol?

3G is the fastest signal for at&t. Your internet will work the fastest and your calling should be clearest. Nothing to worry about. Just when yu see t thats when your reception is at its best source.

Haha hey i looked into it more for you, it seems 3g means Third Generation, meaning past the second generation of technology, and before the fourth...
