Anyone with Attention Deficit Disorder I'm 16/f and I'm finally realizing now that I think I may have ADD. I've had trouble focusing my entire life and now it's worse than ever. I plan to ask my doctor about it. Can you tell me what your own experiences with ADD are so I can see if I can match them up with any of my own? Also, for anyone who has been on medication for it, how has it changed you or made the problems better? Thank you!

When I was younger I had ADHD, so basically, I had hyperactivity added onto the package. I'd get easily distracted - and not just by loud or obvious distractable things, but things that most kids could ignore. Sometimes, I would say or do things that later on I'd think "Um, what was I thinking?!"
And the medication does wonders, it really does. I found it knocked my appetite a little bit, but that was about it. I would take it only once (in the morning), and throughout the day, I was quieter, and concentrated. All of my school marks improved, as did the relationships with people.
Hope it helped you out.

My younger brother has/had ADD. I can't give you much information since it was him and not myself who had it. I can tell you that he was a constant pain in the butt (very hyper, didn't listen a lot, did his own things at his own pace, didn't do what you asked of him most of the time, etc.). I thought he had ADHD, but the doctors just said ADD - as far as I know. He was on medication for 3-4 years before stopping. He's a lot calmer now and concentrates a lot better. The medicine really helped him to focus in class. He used to make a lot of As and Bs, then he had a lot of trouble concentrating and he became a huge procrastinator. That's when they had diagnosed him - when his grades began slipping. I guess his teacher had noticed something. The teacher contacted my parents who were suggested to schedule an appointment with his physician. After diagnosed and medicated, he started doing a lot better. His grades are still somewhat low in the classes he has trouble with, but for the most part, the medication has helped him.
I don't think he's considered ADD anymore (I think it's one of those things that can come and go, but sometimes sticks for a long time).
There are a lot of sites that can give you symptoms and such, but I'm sure the reason you've asked here was to get a lot more personal experience. ]
