Air conditioning Problem 96 Cavalier I have a 96 Cavalier. The A/c will not work, but the heat and blower work just fine. My Father looked at it and thought the problem might be a low Freeon situation. But a bottle and a half of dyed freeon later (no leaks or anything came up) and it's still unbearable to drive anywhere because it is so hot out with out an A/C.
I have a baby due in July and I do not want to drive around in a hot car with a newborn. Any advice?

Vehicular Air conditioning is actually a somewhat complex subject, and it is not covered too much in many vocational schools nowadays. I know a few certified mechancis actually that do not know how to work on the AC unit. One thing that I would do is definitley have someone good check it out; you don't want to pay your hard-earned money to a half-wit mechanic who doesn't really know what they are talking about! However, getting back to your AC problem, there are electrical relays (switches) in your car's computer that tell it when to cool down when you flip the AC switch on. If you have the frion, it may be somthing in the vehicle's computer. Have a good mechanic check it over, and if they seem like they know what the deal is, have them fix it. If it's dealing with the air conditioning, you want it done right so it doesn't go faulty again in another month. I hope this helped you! Dave ]
