getting to nyc

hi there,
i'll be going to visit family on Long Island soon and will want to make a day trip to the City. can you get to manhattan with public transport in a fairly easy way? i'll be in East Meadow.

the train was my best friend when i lived in the city :) it is easy, safe, and fairly inexpensive.
