Does anyone know if jean auel is well and actually working on the 6th book of Earth's Children? websites have told me nothing! its been years now.

It seems as if she really is working on the sixth book. On the Earth's Children Fan Club website it says:
"BOOK 6 STATUS: Jean is currently writing the 6th book in the Earth's Children series. Until she has the final draft ready for her editor, there will be no updates on progress, estimated publication dates or title from authentic sources."

This was posted on December 27, 2007 it looks like, and the website owners claims that he/she will be posting updated information as soon as it's received.
It also seems that she won't be ending the series after the sixth book as previously planned. She has made comments about going on to a final seventh book before ending it.
It is too early to know when she will be releasing this sixth book really; however, it is rumored that it will be released by December of 2008.

...which helps to dispel rumors of accidents happening to her and such. They claim that she is fine and well so you don't have to worry about never getting this next book in the series.
I'd keep an eye on that fan site if I were you. They seem to have the most reliable information about the author and may even end up being first to find out about things.
I hope the sixth book comes out soon so you can enjoy the read.
