how about a wii?

yeah, sounds lame. but i just graduated high school and everyone LOVES coming to my house to play the wii, even though we're 17/18 years old. we have the wii sports, guitar hero, and the new mario kart, and we have all kinds of mini-tournaments and get everyone to bring their controlers so 4 people can play at a time. it's fun for sleepovers with your friends and after dances for school and stuff.

if you don't want one of those, i'd definitely agree with the other reply-er: ask for a laptop. they are super handy and i love mine (i have a pink dell inspiron 1525). you can get a new one from around 600/700, or even shop ebay for a nice used one (my sister did and hers works like new).

hope i helped (:

Whenever im in this dilemma I always ask for make-up, cds, hair stuff, some accesories for your ipod maybe, If you play sports ask for stuff that goes along with that.
If you stil cant get any idea take the money save it and ude it when you know what you want.

You might want to think about asking your parents for a laptop. It doesn't have to be too expensive. On TigerDirect, there are good laptops for around $600, as long as you know what you're looking at. Also, if your parents aren't too keen on the idea, you can tell them that it's the present for both your graduation and birthday. When you get to highschool, you're gonna have to write a lot more papers on the computer and do a lot more research so you cramping up the computer in your house might reduce their time on it. There are a lot of highschoolers in my city that have laptops and study in a cafe somewhere where they are abe to connect to the internet. Studying home is usually dull and boring. You can make study groups outside while having a drink and having access to a laptop. Hope I helped!
Otherwise, When asking what "some cool stuff are now", I think that mostly, technical appliances (ipods, cell phones, blueberries and all that) are considered to be the coolest.
